The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is a non-profit tax exempt 501(c)(3) corporation. The Cancer League was established in 1980 by a group of local people sympathetic to those confronting cancer and incorporated in the State of California on 05/23/1984. Our service area encompasses the south shore portion of Lake Tahoe between Glenbrook, Nevada and the California El Dorado/Placer County line. Cancer patients requesting our assistance must be permanent residents of our service area and under active cancer treatment. Our goal is the ease the stress that goes with the treatment of cancer. Our labor force is 100% volunteer. Our administrative costs are minical. We cannot offer a cure, but we can offer compassion through “Caring, Sharing, and Helping”.
We offer free transportation for cancer treatments. Our drivers transport patients to UC-Davis/Sac, UC-Davis/Truckee, Reno/Sparks, Carson Valley and South Lake Tahoe. Last year we drove 291 patients for treatment.
We provide limited financial assistance grants to patients under active cancer treatment. Last year we issued 117 grants.
Our organization has touched the lives of so many locals. We get heartwarming feedback from those who have received our help and from the family and friends of patients. We’re looking forward to many years of helping those in our community who are devastated by cancer. Each year the number of patients requesting our help increases as well as the amount of checks we write increases also. That is why we’re appealing to our local businesses to support us.
Local businesses who join will have their name on our website and Facebook page. We will prominently display business names at all events that support our Cancer League (Annual Home and Garden Show, See’s Candy Sale, Stand Up Paddle’s “Paddle Against Cancer” Paddle Board Event, The Sierra Athletic Club Cancer Walk & Silent Auction, The Chili Cook-Off), and your business name will be on our monthly newsletter that goes to all members. Most importantly, you will be supporting a local organization that touches the lives of many locals.
We look forward to having you on board.
